When will my curriculum proposal be effective?

Proposals do not go into effect immediately upon approval by the Curriculum Committee, or even upon approval at the Chancellor’s Office. This guide is intended to help you determine when proposals can become effective, relative to their approval date.

Course Proposals

New and Reactivated Courses: will be effective at the start of the next term following Chancellor’s Office approval.

Revised Courses: effective term depends on the local change type—whether it has catalog changes or not.

Revision with Catalog Changes: will be effective at the start of the next registration cycle following Chancellor’s Office approval (usually the next Fall term).

Revision with Non-Catalog Changes: will be effective at the start of the next term following Chancellor’s Office approval.

Inactivated Courses: will be effective at the start of the next Fall term following Board of Trustees approval.

Course Addenda

Distance Education: will be effective at the start of the next term following Board of Trustees approval.

Dual Enrollment: will be effective at the start of the next term following Board of Trustees approval.

Large Class Format: will be effective at the start of the next term following Board of Trustees approval.

Instructional Materials Fee: changes to fee amounts will be effective at the start of the next registration cycle following Dean/Director, Admissions & Records, and Business Office approval (These come to the Curriculum Committee for informational purposes only). 

Program (Degree & Certificate) Proposals

New AA, AS, AA-T, or AS-T: will be effective at the start of the next term following Chancellor’s Office approval.

New Certificate of Achievement or Noncredit Certificate: will be effective at the start of the next term following Chancellor’s Office approval.

New Certificate of Recognition (12-17 units): will be effective at the start of the next term following Board of Trustees approval.

Revised Degree or Certificate of any kind: will be effective at the start of the next registration cycle following Chancellor’s Office (or BOT for Cert. of Rec.) approval (usually the next Fall term).

Inactivated Degree or Certificate of any kind: will be effective at the start of the next Fall term following Board of Trustees approval.
