1) Continue developing the new Technology Plan 2015-2017
A major part of the new tech plan is an equipment replacement plan. The discussion of how to develop this plan resulted in the following direction:
:
We do have an inventory of all devices (servers). Spicework scans the network for all devices on the network. Some faculty with laptops do not get on the network and go undetected.
Actively replacing machines under set specs. Slowly moving specs up for replacement.
Student computers (e.g., labs) get first priority. Student tech fee goes towards this.
Funds are a restriction. But should propose reasonable plan.
Equipment included in plan:
Servers, computers, printers, switches, networking gear, phones, classroom equipment (smartboards, projectors, Elmos), Xerox machines, software licenses.
Servers – moving to 9 servers (some virtual). Replacements depend how they are being used. 5 to 7 years is usual life. Anticipating services that will no longer be supported should be part of the plan.
Computers - XX laptops (~ 3 year life, replace in terms of specs), XX desktops (~5 year life, in terms of specs)
Macs and mobile users should get computers serviced annually/regularly
Printers – XX personal printers, XX departmental computers, XX Xerox printers
extent to which we have departmental/personal printers as well as Xerox printers?
TSS will begin to collect this information.
2) Technology assessment plan - re-administer survey?
The past surveys were reviewed and a few questions were modified to reflect the change to Canvas and recent wifi upgrades. The surveys will be administered next week to inform program review.
3) Update on email migration
Staff email have been migrated and faculty will follow in the next few weeks. Instructions will be given about how to use exchange on mobile devices.
4) Update on Ellucian Student Planning Module implementation
