Multiple Measures Assessment Pilot Group

The Multiple Measures Assessment Pilot (M-MAP) task force is charged with engage with the RP Group and CCCCO to participate as a pilot college on behalf of the college. The goals of the M-MAP pilot project are:

  1. Contribute to the development of a data warehouse: includes creation of a secure, large, and robust data warehouse to collect, store, and analyze multiple measures which will include high school transcript and test data, as well as MIS and placement test data for each community college.
  2. Test a comprehensive analytical model: includes identification, analysis, and validation of known multiple measures data points, drawing directly from research obtained through the STEPS pilot, and leveraging of predictive analytic software to identify new data points that can serve as effective multiple measures.
  3. Inform the development of user tools for assessment and placement using multiple measures:includes the engagement of pilot colleges throughout the process to assist in development of the analytic tools and user interface, and to test the tools and models using local college data supplied through the data warehouse.

MMAP is engaged with 28 (and counting) pilot colleges from across the state that are providing feedback on the predictive models and user tools to help inform the process.

Agenda

1) Review of the M-MAP conference (Wall, Chown, Herrera-Thomas, Vaughn)

It was noted that we should begin placing at least a small number of students using MMAP for spring (not during spring for next fall).
The conference team brought a new decision tree model that was recently revised.
The conference team got a better understanding of the pilot, and how we could carry it out.

2) Continued review of the decision tree for English and Mathematics

There were some peculiar placement rules where students had taken math courses but were placed lower than expected because their cumulative high school gpa was low (e.g., Algebra I & II). The model was based on students having poor performance in math once placed with low cumulative gpas.

There was confusion about the course titles. Angelina will ask the RP group for the course descriptions that were used.

Angelina will also ask for clarification to make sure that the prereq course (first column) is included as an AND with one of the other columns.

3) Review of non-cognitive questions for face validity (see link below)

Feedback from an English faculty was to limit the number of questions (probably no more than 10).

The questions were held for review at the next session, with homework for members to identify their favorite scales or questions.

Mallory Newell said that we could pick and choose questions from different scales to use.

Giving these questions at orientation was proposed as a possible way of collecting this data.
