Agenda

1) Review of the M-MAP conference (Wall, Chown, Herrera-Thomas, Vaughn)

It was noted that we should begin placing at least a small number of students using MMAP for spring (not during spring for next fall).
The conference team brought a new decision tree model that was recently revised.
The conference team got a better understanding of the pilot, and how we could carry it out.

2) Continued review of the decision tree for English and Mathematics

There were some peculiar placement rules where students had taken math courses but were placed lower than expected because their cumulative high school gpa was low (e.g., Algebra I & II). The model was based on students having poor performance in math once placed with low cumulative gpas.

There was confusion about the course titles. Angelina will ask the RP group for the course descriptions that were used.

Angelina will also ask for clarification to make sure that the prereq course (first column) is included as an AND with one of the other columns.

3) Review of non-cognitive questions for face validity (see link below)

Feedback from an English faculty was to limit the number of questions (probably no more than 10).

The questions were held for review at the next session, with homework for members to identify their favorite scales or questions.

Mallory Newell said that we could pick and choose questions from different scales to use.

Giving these questions at orientation was proposed as a possible way of collecting this data.
