Institutional Planning Definitions & Guidelines

 

Focus Area: A short heading that organizes goals and objectives around fundamental and distinctive elements vital for achieving our Mission and Vision. Focus areas are broken into priorities in fulfilling our Mission, and priorities in strengthening our institution.

Example Focus Areas:

  • Focus areas only exist for the Education Master Plan.

  • Operational plans (Technology, Facilities, Distance Education) should tie goals and objectives to a focus in the Education Master Plan.

Institutional Goal: One or two sentences describing a major aspiration that the institution intends to realize under a linked focus area. 

Objective: Specific, time-sensitive statements for achieving your goals.

Strategies/Action Plan: Specific implementation plan of how you will achieve your objectives and goals.

  • Are not included in the Education Master Plan. These appear as annual planning actions in the Institution’s Annual Plan or in operational annual plans.

Measurement & Evaluation

 

Progress on a given goal will be measured by the progress on its constituent objectives.

Other measures to evaluate the overall progress on the goals within the Education Master Plan include:

  • California Community College Chancellor’s Student Success Scorecard


Evaluation & Improvement Plan

 

Annually, action items that link to each of the objectives in the Education Master Plan will be evaluated. This will include review of measurements specified for the goal. Annual review and analysis of the other measures listed above will also be reviewed and analyzed in the annual Institutional Effectiveness Report. This report will include progress and recommendations for enhancements to improve progress on the Education Master Plan objectives.
